Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp Olivino Ultra-Premium Olive Oil (We used Picual) 
  • 1 yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced or pushed through a garlic press
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 lb Italian sausage
  • 2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • Pinch of red chili flakes
  • 3 large cans San Marzano tomatoes
  • 1 cup dry red wine
  • Freshly ground black pepper

  Directions

  1. Heat oil in a large Dutch oven over medium heat. Add in onion and saute until soft and fragrant, about 5 minutes Add garlic and cook until it smells nice and garlicky, about 30 seconds.
  2. Crank the heat up to high, and add in ground beef and Italian sausage.
  3. Season with salt. Break up meat with a wooden spoon and cook until browned. 
  4. Add in your dry seasonings (basil, oregano, Italian seasoning, red chili flakes) and heat through for about 30 seconds.
  5. Pour in wine and tomatoes, breaking up the tomatoes with the back of a wooden spoon or potato masher.
  6. Reduce heat to low and simmer, partially covered for 1 hour to let the sauce reduce and get rich and thick.
  7. Check your sauce and add more salt here if necessary.
